Couldn't you just make the quest so that if you somehow lose it, whatever that case may be, that you just talk to the guy at the beggining of the quest and it has something that checks to see if you already did the quest and if you didn't and there is no broken toy on your account then he will give you a new one so that you may do the quest?

Its not repeatable either, and the article doesn't say it isn't.

I remade the character and got to Kamadan and tried following the instructions in the November issue of PC Gamer to get my Gray Giant mini pet. I typed /bonusitems but the Broken Toy did not appear in my inventory. I guess because it appeared on my first character and I deleted him? Does the Broken Toy not respawn like the other bonus items? (I still get the Ithas Bow every time I type the command.) I would be very upset if I lost my mini pet because of this.
Something like this happened to me during the preview event. I deleted the broken toy on one of my accounts (rather, the character who had it) and was unable to get another.

I discovered it while Gaile was in town, so I asked what was up and she explained it. It's frustrating.

My best suggestion is (for those who haven't already lost a toy this way) to do the quest before deleting any characters, and put the miniature in storage.

I don't know if you can put the broken toy in storage and get the quest with another Elonian character, though.

Is it possible to flag quest completion by account? You can recover a deleted toy, but once you do the quest, you can't get any more toys, and you can't use toys to do the quest again?

That would be ideal. I really hope they do this.

Gaile, Thanks for the update on this promotional item.

I also dragged the Broken Toy to the trash can when I discovered I could not receive the quest with a Tyrian/Canthan character. I didn't think for a second that I wouldn't see it again. You make a very good point that people would be able to get multiples if you made a blanket statement that anyone who deleted their item could get a new one by simply contacting ANet.

Is there some way that this can be restored on a case-by-case basis? Thanks for any consideration.

Why would you trash something that was worth cash? 'WTS Grey Giant 20k' would have got you more PM's than you could reply to, let alone trying to sell it for market value.

I'm having the same problem. Everything worked fine during the preview event but its not spawning now. I did the /bonusitems command and all of the bonus items show up except for the broken toy. What gives?

I recieved this response after trying to tell them that toy quest I abandoned (because I changed my mind and wanted the 2k exp for another char), was not offered again by Mhak. With this in mind, I deleted the toy model QUEST item (not the completed version), hoping that would triger Mhak to offer the toy quest. As far as I know, you can always get quest items (for any type of quest) back provided you do not complete the quest. I would be happy to provide them another unused pc gamer magazine key if all else fails.
But I was wrong and this is the response I got from the Guild Wars Team.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team.

We regret instances where players lose characters or items, whether it is through the actions of unfriendly or unscrupulous players, through deletion accidents, or through other means. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to replace such things; Guild Wars does not have the capability to recover lost or deleted characters or items. No matter the cause for such loss, replacement of such things is simply not something that we are able to offer or support. Again, we are most sympathetic about your loss.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support of Guild Wars.

Regards,

The Guild Wars Support Team

I never would've taken that kind of gamble on a special promo mini pet. Certainly not for a measly 2k xp......

Yeah, my survivor ele died during the quest for the pet. (Too low a level to be messing with level 8 monsters, especially with only flare and firestorm. ) I finished the quest, got my giant and re-rolled her after the giant was safely in STORAGE.

Dude, sorry, but that's an uneducated, ignorant response. If you would have read the thread you would have realized that they trashed their broken toys before receiving the giant, not after... You don't just 'get' the giant from the code (like the CE's)... it is obtained through a quest that has two parts.

GL with a fix guys, might be hard for them to do due to the nature of the beast, (being a pet and all).. I almost did the same thing (deleted my char with the broken toy because I didn't like his eye colour, lol), but thought better of it/otherwise... Didn't want to loose my one-time-issue toy for good
